Sorry for such short notice but I just found out about it. The Porsche Club is having an autocross on Sunday at the site they use near Kerman. I have looked at this site as possible for use by us, but wasn't sure. Now is a good chance for us to try it out and see if it will work. The event will be more like our test & tune. No classes, no schedule, probably unlimited runs. Just be there about 7:30 AM to get registered. Run what you brung & have fun!
I'll be there.
It's not on their web site, so don't bother to look. Entry fee is $30.
The address is 12801 W Shields, Kerman. It's about 9 miles West of 99.
Here's a link to Google, but Google thinks it's in the middle of a field. The actual site is the big lot with a few buildings to the east (right) between N. Howard & N. Biola.

Anyone have objection to me picking up an easy-up and the SCCA banner from the trailer to identify us?

When to a Porsche Club event at this location last year and it was hilarious. The site wraps around two large metal buildings. The back side of the course couldn't be seen from the start/finish line. It was a short course because the paved area is pretty small. The dozen or so cars that participated in the event made it seem like a long course because all but a couple were sooooo slow. Hope you guys show 'em how to use a sports car.

I was checking out this site on the "bird's eye view" on live.com. You can see the skid marks left from an event there. Looks like a VERY small course.

Cliff,
Also, how welcoming are they of non-Porsche cars? Did you get the feeling they didn't want you there?
I think I'm in the gray area with Porsche just completing purchase of VW haha.

Most likely just from somebody spinning brodies. The autocross site is directly to the south west of there. I finally got it focused in a birds eye view and it looks like an autocross is going on when the photo was taken! I can't get the link to work. How do I do the link to say "see here" with the link behind it?
Wait - I got it to work!

They'll welcome you even if you drove an Audi. (another make in the Porsche empire) The reason I went last year was because they advertised in the Mid Cal Mini forum. Their selling points were that they offered more runs than the SCCA does and have lunch , electricity and flushing toilets. Oh my!!!!!! How can you pass on something as great as that?
I didn't sign up because I'd take my son-in-law with me just to show him what an auto-x looked like. Have fun and raise the banner high.

Sounds good. I stopped by the trailer yesterday to get the banner. I think Steve Stephens has it to size the new one. There was 2 of them in there though. I'll try to stop by today and take another look. Not sure if I'll have time though, I'm moving my 240z across town to start that project :D

About a 45 second course. They had an interesting way of doing it. For each run, you got two laps, but only the 2nd was timed. The first was just practice. In addition to 5ocobra, Brandon, Peter Garbrelian & I participated. Like I said, run what you brung and have fun! We got 8 runs of two laps apiece. It was fun for this, as every body always says, "little Miata" to whoop some big Porsche ***. Contragulaytons to Peter for taking TTOD in his GT3. With street tires, no less.
Nice to meet you, 50cobra.
Hey Steve, somebody did show up with a 914. Didn't participate, though, although he planned to. The only time the engine ran - but not well - was when he took it off, and put it back on, the trailer.

How many runs do they let you have?
What is the cost to enter?

How many runs do they let you have? It depends on how long they decide to hang out. Last time I got 8 runs.
What is the cost to enter? $30
How is their timing done? With RaqceAmerica equipment, same as ours but with cables, not RF.

I think I'll check it out this time, I need to drive. I talked to the contact lady, she kept stressing that 'this is just for fun, we don't do it like you SCCA guys', whatever that means. I guess we don't have fun? Too hardcore for them? Guess we will find out.
Brandon, I didn't see your post from last time, I do have both the banners if you need them. I am ordering the new one tomorrow, so I can either bring them to the PCA event or to the meeting the following Monday, whichever.
I know this is off-topic, but anyone watching F1 this year? Pretty crazy stuff. Nice to see the backmarkers in front, if only till their points are taken away...

As I said in a previous post they have been advertising that they are cheaper and better than the SCCA. Last year they held their one event that I know of on the same weekend we had a scheduled event at the new Castle site. Maybe if we want to keep participating with them we should tone down the banners and such to keep away from a confrontation. It is their site and we are guests. The gang showed them last event that we can drive with them and then some. Just my two cents worth.(Sense this is an open forum best assume they will read this thread.)
Steve I'm a big F1 fan. Love to see the Brawn boys dominating the rest of the field. All that Honda $$$ last year sure paid off this year.

I would agree with Cliff on this one. The Porsche and BMW clubs events are very low key and primarily intended for the enjoyment of their club members. Both clubs have been very welcoming to SCCA members and I suggest we respect the flavor of their event.
This has been the best season opener for F1 in some time.

I also agree. We need places to race and with the way things are going it's great that PCA has graciously allowed us SCCA guys at their events. I'll be going next week as I'm going nuts only running the car once since San Diego. Now let's all look like we're trying to have fun;)
By the way in case any of you don't know. AAS lost Alameda. I think the city council realized that we wanted to actually "race" our cars there and that it might disturb the bird santuary that they feel is more important than giving people that like to drive fast a place to safely do it. Funny, all those years it was a Naval Air Station that launched dozens of jets a day didn't seem to bother them:mad:.
It's about time F1 got interesting again. It's been a long time since more than one or two drivers had a shot at winning a race.

This was my first Porsche Club event and it was just plain fun. The site has marginal grip and is perfect for practicing car control. Great group of people to play with as well.
Are times ever published anywhere? Just curious to see how things finally ended up. From what I heard I think Peter should have ended with a 40.8xx, Joshua at 40.9xx and my 41.1xx (with penalty) for the top three.

I concur - it was a great event, only a few entries, cool people, dramatic events when the mustang almost went into the canal, etc. I will definitely do it again. The site was better than I expected.
I think the club represented quite well with our times - maybe we are too competitive!

I liked the small group to run with. The course was cone lined but had enough room to select you line. I love that straight away to get my Turbo to stretch its legs. All the people putting it on were easy to get along with.

Sorry I missed it. I chose to work on the car Saturday thinking the event was Sunday:( As it turned out I didn't get anything done due to a stripped rear shock bolt that I have no idea how I'm going to get out. and the fact that Mazdaspeed can't quite get things right when it comes to their Delrin chassis bushing kit. Twice:mad:
Add in a chipped front tooth and I can't wait to go to work tomorrow.:o
Maybe our competitiveness will make them try harder and become better drivers
