For anyone interested in a very high speed autocross - Lone Pine is scheduled for June 5th and 6th. Perhaps it's more accurate to call it a time trial event because of the speed. I will deep into fourth gear in the Z.
This is an annual event - this year is the 40th running. It's held at an abandoned airport near Lone Pine.
Party on Friday and Saturday nights.
Try a google search for both registration materials and some you tube video. I've wanted to go for years - this year I'm going. Anybody wanna join?

I've heard that it's a great event and as you say -- fast. I'd think about joining you but as you know several of us will be at Buttonwillow.
Have fun, drive well, and come back with pictures and a trophy.
I found their PDF with entry form:

and a posted video:

That's a fast course!! Plus, if you lose it you wind up in the sage brush - my kinda course! But, like Dan said, the really interested guys will be at Buttonwillow. I'd really like to go, but Gary & I will be in Philadelphia for the BABE rally. Let's do it next year! Give us more advanced notice.

Hey guys,
Mr Bryan H is the master of Lone Pine and I am sure he will add a link to a couple of his videos once he finds this thread. Every year I want to go something comes up. I would call it more of a a flat rally event.

I don't have any videos to share right now unfortunately. They're stuck on an old hard drive somewhere. Need to buy an external hard drive reader device... anyway.
I've been twice - 2007 and 2008, setting FTD both times. Drove the MR2 Turbo in '07 and a Shelby Mustang in '08, both on ordinary street tires. The surface is gravelly and broken up in places, so there's very little grip and you slide a ways if you get too far off line (the course is too long for walking - they run a few parade laps to familiarize everyone with the course while cleaning up the racing line). I recommend bringing a set of tires you don't care about too much. The loose surface can be fun though, fingertipping the car through offset gates at 90mph along the main runway. It gets your attention! There are a couple small trees off to one side of the main runway so it pays to drive with your head on straight. I did see a car go into a tree in '08, but the hit was light enough that it was running the next day, albeit with altered aerodynamic properties. ;)

Runnin' wide, doin' it rally style.
I enjoy the event but I'm not sure I can make it this year - I still need to fix the MR2T and the NA will be needing a clutch very soon.

Ran the ES MR2 on Sunday after we ran out of tires on the Mustang Saturday (they were quite crap to start with).

Thanks for posting the results Bret. Looks like the tire presure change and clean (no weeds or gravel) on the second day helped. 80mph, 4 wheel drift in a front wheel drive car....high pucker factor.
Great event will try to go again next year.
Any pixs?

Pucker factor is an accurate description!
Bret completely dominated the event - by 8 seconds on day one and 10 the second day. He gave everyone a driving lesson. At least I get some satisfaction that it was in the Z.
BTW - the Goodyear tires were amazing. I have a little tread left in them so hope they work as well here.
