Evidently, we have been doing it wrong.. This from another forum... I didn't double-check it, but it's supposed to be from the Solo GRCs...

7.4 RERUNS
Reruns will be granted only for timing failure or object on the course and will not be given because of mechanical or other failure of the competitor’s car. A minimum of five minutes must have elapsed before a competitor may take a rerun.

Pylon penalties are not carried over to the rerun. A DNF on a run for which a rerun would have been given shall stand and no reruns shall be given.

I suggest we make this change, effective immediately.

Edit: Or not... This is a follow-up..

7.4 is not a mandatory section, so local events can dispense with the 5 minute delay if they want to. It has not generally been enforced in the regions I have run with.

I do think the driver should be given a 5 minute option just as in his usual runs.

With Summer approaching I can see wanting/needing the 5 minutes (or more) to cool tires. However, in the Winter it is to one's advantage to rerun ASAP to keep heat in the tires. Either way, let's have a clear written policy.

Our Bylaws now say in part:

7.24 Reruns:
• A minimum of 5 minutes must elapse before the competitor must take their rerun. As per SCCA Solo rulebook section 7.4 Reruns. If the competitor is not ready to leave the grid and take their rerun after the minimum 5 minutes has elapsed then the applicable run will be scored as DNR(Did Not Run).

We also address times between runs here:

7.29 Time between competition runs:
• Minimum 5 minute rest period between runs unless a shorter time is approved with the Grid person and the competitor.
• Maximum 15 minute time period is allowed once per competitor in a run group if the competitor claims a mechanical breakdown.
• If the applicable time period elapses and the competitor is not ready to leave their grid position then they will loose that run and receive a DNR (Did Not Run) in the results.

Let's make sure these don't contradict as they can now.
