I am planning to go help on April 24th Saturday to gain information about the school. Anybody else interested in going? Plan to drive up and back the same day. Carpool? Caravan?
The school dates for the students are firm but we have some flexibility on the instructor training. If it doesn't work out for you to attend an instructor training session you might just want to audit the school, or help in a staff position. Also, there is a ton of instruction content available in print (electronically); of course seeing it in action adds significantly to the learning experience.
I'm attaching a couple documents you may find helpful in communicating to the Fresno Chapter about SFR SCCA TRSS:
The Wheel Announcement - April Edition - The Wheel Announcement v3.2

Team,
First, I'd like to thank all who attended Thursday's instructor training session and those who will be helping at one or both of our teen schools.
Please go over Instructor handouts, provided by the BMW CCA Foundation & SFR SCCA:
In-Car Coach Guidelines (http://4d-sport.com/images/In-Car-Coach-GUIDELINES-rev2.pdf)(pdf) - (as provided at 3/25/2010 training)
Student Companion (http://4d-sport.com/images/student-handbook-clr.pdf)(pdf) - and for Classroom Instructors and the ambitions In-Car Coaches, In Classroom Presentation(ppt (http://4d-sport.com/images/TRSS_10_R1.0.ppt)- pdf (http://4d-sport.com/images/TRSS_10_R1.0_-Classroom.pdf))
- and -
“SFR SCCA Teen TRSS Candlestick Exercise Circuit Maps (http://4d-sport.com/images/Event_Sheets_1-6_3-25-10.pdf)” (pdf) (as provided at 3/25/2010 training)
Review the school schedule (http://4d-sport.com/images/SCHOOL_SCHEDULE_split.pdf) (as provided at 3/25/2010 training). Class rotations. Lunch etc… It is important that we stay on schedule. The reward is an opportunity to play at the end of the day.
Please, look professional at all times. We are being watched by students, parents and possibly the media at all times during the day. Watch language being used. Watch appearance. Wear shirts provided. Do not have to match colors (i.e. yellow or black etc…)
This is not a High Performance Driving School (HPDE). This has nothing to do with speed and all to do with car control, being smooth.
Instructors are encouraged to:
Use positive re-enforcement w/ teens even if it’s a little thing. This is the “instant gratification generation”, playing video games tells them how the are doing all the time. They need to hear it from the instructor often.
Talk in the car. Get friendly with them, they could be scared to death.
Talk students through exercises, stay well ‘ahead’ of the driver.
Do not talk over student’s heads w/ technical talk. Do not use words like apex, track in, track out, for that mattertrack anything!
Make adjustments / corrections in little steps.
Watch for too much testosterone in slalom & skid pad.
Participate in classroom if not driving with students. Support classroom instructor. DO NOT ARGUE with classroom instructor in front of class. Do that separately if necessary out of ear shot of parents or students.
Have fun with the kids, stay loose, on time, but loose, in charge and control at all times.
Do NOT show off by getting students in the your car. Or “testing” the course. There may be time for that at the end of the day. Showing off often sends the wrong message to the students. And causes MAJOR distractions.
If instructing in a front wheel drive car and can’t ‘break’ loose on skip pad lightly quickly pull parking brake to unsettle car. Don’t lock in place to make car come to stop. Idea is to create a loose condition so that they can correct it, not just to make them spin-out.
If instructing in a high profile vehicle (Mini-van, SUV etc..) extra caution is needed to prevent roll-over especially in skid pad or slalom exercise sections. Talk to teen about what conditions might make this easy to happen.
When ASKED about speed programs talk about auto-crossingor when age available, track schools but this is not to be seen as a feeder school to those programs.
