I met with Lauri King, director of the Fresno Fairgrounds yesterday. She is excited that we have interest in hosting more events there this season. We went over the calendar for the entire year and came up with the following dates that the carnival lot is available.

April 11-12 Easter
May 9-10 Mother's Day
July 11-12
August 1-2
August 8-9

Not remembering the schedule that was discussed at the meeting, I'd say "Book it, Dano!" Since losing the Winton Ramp, we've all wanted more events back at the fairgrounds, even as weak as it is. But, of course, this is a decision to be made by the Executive Board.

I'm with you Ron. At least the fairgrounds pavement isn't breaking up to the point it's damaging your paint.

Exactly...

I look at the fairgrounds as a nice recruitment tool as well. I think a lot of Fresno new-comers are more likely to drive to the fairgrounds than to Atwater to check us out.

I think the only car that could withstand more abuse from last years site is Ric/Gerald's AM car. Buttersmooth :D

I like this news! I'll have a lot more friends now who won't have anymore excuses now.

Brandon,
I'm a newbie. If events were held at the fairground, my attendance would be increased by 500%. It's closer to home, so I may be able to recruit a couple friends. 10 votes for the fairground :)

carnival lot would consist of the space used for the Schools?

carnival lot would consist of the space used for the Schools?Yes. It's where they put the midway at fair time. We enter on Kings Canyon.

id be all for using the fairgrounds. it seemed pretty nice the other day. its a little slick but the postage stamp in atwater was slick too due to the dirt so i think it will be just fine.

We have committed to theses dates for the Fresno Fairgrounds:
April 11-12 Easter
May 9-10 Mother's Day
July 11-12
August 1-2
August 8-9
We will have more information concerning the Castle site on Friday of this week.

We need event chairs to start stepping forward especially for the April 11-12 date and May 9-10 date. Since they look to be the 1st events of the season, but that may change Friday.

I'll be checking my schedule, but I not sure if 103rwhp is going to cut it for towing :(

Those back to back August weekends might pose a challenge...

That's what the slow lane is for. As long as you have enough brake to stop your rig and trailer, you're golden :)

Those back to back August weekends might pose a challenge...Not really Gary. For those of you fron not in the area, maybe. For those who have to rearrange weekend, maybe. For most of the people we get at the fairgrounds, and that's noobie locals, we may get some both weekends, and some one or the other, but I'll bet we get their friends on the other. I'll bet the numbers stay up for those dates.

Again I have an official email from the Fresno Fairgrounds that we have:

May 9-10 Mother's Day
July 11-12
August 1-2
August 8-9

I will need an event chair volunteer by Monday before getting April 11-12. The problem with this weekend is that it is Easter and I am thinking there will be a very low turnout for Sunday if we have an event. The other draw back is the we pay for the entire weekend when we rent the fairgrounds so not having an event Sunday will lose us money whether we do or do not have an event.
Now if some one is willing to chair the event then you must contact me by this Sunday night so I can tell the Fairgrounds that we have an Event Chair and can take that date. Otherwise we will not have an event April 11-12.

Concerning Castle I am still on the process of setting up a conference call with them to discuss the availability of either site up there. Once I have information on Castle I will post it right away.

Getting the Winton ramp back would give the chapter a best of both worlds as it would bring in newbies from Fresno and Merced Modesto area, not to mention the Sac and SF folks we would get back.

Good luck Josh and a Big Thank you Brandon for getting the fairgrounds back. I would be willing to co-chair the May event and do both days. But I have no way of getting the trailer back and forth. Can't do April as I have had bad things happen to me when I try and race on Easter Sunday:eek:
