Sounds cool. I just checked Google Maps, and it has it listed as Kerman though, not Fresno.

Satellite view shows a big lot in the middle of a bunch of fields though, so I'm guessing that's the correct spot, right?

:)

Right now my schedule looks good for those dates, with the possible exception of March 7. Look for me there! I highly suggest this for others who want seat time. Their events really are fun!

God, I wish this wasn't 3 hours away from me and tires were cheaper.
When would I need to be there?

Count me in with the Cobra. What's the plan if there's weather?

bring an umbrella

Fun2Bee
03-03-2010, 07:30 AM
We plan to run rain or shine - if enough drivers arrive to cover the costs. It takes 15 drivers. Bring a rain coat. Umbrellas and storm gear should be some color other than RED to differentiate them from red flags. If, like me, you haven't run your car in the rain, this might be a good time to explore different limits and the value of smooth inputs.

After last Saturday's drift school in the Cobra in rainy conditions, I can say with definative certainty...Open cars SUCK in the rain.

If I can borrow the enclosed trailer again, I'll be there either way.

The attachment includes the spreadsheet in a PDF format.
Thank you to all the SCCA drivers who made the event a success. :)

I hope you had a good time. This was my first time designing a course and managing an event. I'd appreciate any feedback about the course, the managment of the event, or whatever you think can help me improve something.

Our next event at the Kerman location will be April 25th. Hope to see you there.

Link works for me. It was a very fun course! I had fun David. At first I was a little worry that things were not going to get set up in time, but with the help of everyone there, everything went smoother than I thought. I think the only thing that I could complain about and I think everyone that was there can agree on was the loose gravel. Of course, it was such a fun course, it didn't bother me. I think I was having too much fun and I forgot that the goal was not to hit the cones. ;)

Hi David,

Thanks to you and your group. I had a great time. I thought the event
ran pretty smooth. The only thing I would suggest is that you take a
look at why you had any DNF's. If you correct that you'll see more repeat
customers.:D

Ric

Thanks for the feedback. I agree about the gravel and DNFs.

I'd be curous to know if anyone knows of a street sweeper contact that could give us a price on getting the lot swept.

I think the DNFs had to do with the complexity of the course. I tried to have it open enough to reduce cone targets and require drivers to pick their line rather than have the cones spell it out. I appreciated that the couse after the SCCA autocross School last week was more open and I had to know the course and pick my line because the cones often did not give away the line. When worling the school's course, I saw many DNFs for the same reasons we had today - there were places to put the car that were off course and off line.

Someone suggested today that having a centerline of chalk would help. That seems too easy. But would like to hear what others think about that option.

I'm so new at this and have not driven with other clubs to see how it is all done. I'll keep an open mind and learn everything I can.

Justin

I was unable to attend, but in my experience a chalk line doesn't give away the fastest line to go through a course. Autocross courses are notoriously complex and usually chalk is laid down much wider than where you would expect the car to travel (since driving over chalk can cause sudden loss of grip). Since the chalk lines are so wide, it doesn't really tell much about what lines to take. In my experience it's very hard to find the correct line even with chalk and lots of cones pointing around.

I am glad the event ran well and I hope to make it out to some of the future events! :)

Also to sweep out the gravel, maybe some of our drifting guys can show up and brush it all out, hahaha!

Reminder! This Sunday, April 25th at the site in Kerman! Check your new settings, try out your new equipment, or see whether or not the last article you read about the "Nut behind the wheel" has improved your times.

I will see if I can make it. My car is getting an upgraded MAF sensor and intake, so that could hinder my making the event if I do not get it done in time. I will for sure plan to make the May 16 which by the way for those who care is NASCAR day.

David,

What time do things get started? I've got a missing man formation flight to perform in the afternoon so I'd need to be out of there by 13:00 or so. Any hard feelings if I don't hang out to help with clean up?

Looks like a good turnout. Now I'm really sorry I missed it. How were the times? Will they be posted anywhere?

BTW: Speaking of Porsches - - today I saw a 914 sitting in a farmer's driveway, bad paint, some primer, with "Make Offer" on the windshield. Anybody interested?

If something major (fire, flod, famine, etc.) doesn't happen between now and then, I'll be there. I'm bringing New Blue, though. I've got a set of tires to wear out before installing new ones next week. For anybody who hasn't been to a PCA event, you should come out and do it! Laid back, non-competitive (as in not for points - lots of competetion between drivers). Think of it as almost a full day of fun runs for cheap.

Thank you all from the Fresno SCCA who came out to run with us this spring. You were a competitive group and gave us Porsche guys some times to shoot for - and we will continue to shoot for them as we haven't beaten them yet. It just goes to show you that , as Time Cone says, "The loose nut behind the wheel makes all the difference." Here are the results from today's (May 16th) event. Our next invitational will be September 26th. We are fair weather drivers - don't like the heat of Summer. I look forward to seeing you at the Fairgrounds.

Drive well, drive fast, and have fun,

A new record - my first double-digit cone day! At least in recent memory. i'm so embarrassed! Obviously, it took me all morning to figure out the course and the car. Also, those 6 cones in run 4 were a wall. Still, very embarrassing. Tell those guys I'm sorry. I still had fun, though. Major fun! Well worth the trip out there.
