My Vision
I've Raced, Rallied, Autocrossed, and this year entered a Concourse
In Rallying we use our driving skills, but place a higher value on the Situational awareness, observation, and problem solving side. The scavenger hunt is a form of the gimmick rally, made much simpler with the advent of the digital camera (I hated lugging that stuff around). I have a list of 12 items some current and some historical all car or driving related. I have seen these things in my driving (I do however drive a lot). I will post the list at 12:01 am Saturday morning so you have lots of time to hunt, officaly ends at 6:59 PM Monday. I do require teams, no driving and taking pictures (you thought texting was bad), at least one team member must be a SCCA member. There will first through third awards, and an award for most "Diverse Team", voted by the rally teams. For diversity I looking for ( on a scale of 1 to 10, Schroeder & Schroeder is a 2, Gary McD and Thad is a 8, and Dan, Bruce, & Eric is a 10 ) a 10, it would be great? This could morph into a slush series? I need to add this is not Fresnocentric and can be run anywhere in California (you will see why when you get the list) You only have to bring your camera to the meeting to be scored. I will be at Yosemite Falls restaurant at Starting @ 5:30 to score your pictures.
So go out, get a team, meet someone "Diverse", and have a great time.

I have a team. Is there such thing as a tie. With Max possible 50 points, and 1 to 5 points per challenge probably not but there is a tie beaker. Team with most 5 pointers wins , if neither team has a 5 pointer , or both teams have the same number we move to 4 points...:)

First let me thank you both for stepping up. More entrants than prizes is a good thing. May I suggest it's generational thing (old guys lived the current history). You have to be a certain age to remember that a Jaguar XKE had three windshield wipers (not one of the challenge), but there is one JDM (Japaneses Domestic Model) challenge. For us old guys there is always Google. Gary McD. probably has some of the items in his garage. :) There is also a strategy, look at the challenges as to: I know where one of those is :D, I know where those might be found , and hell we will have to spot one of those  (???) while we are driving. A little time on a Saturday or Sunday and we just might learn something of our fellow Fresno SCCA members and some automotive trivia. This will work in Oakhurst, LeMoore/Hanford, Atwater, Modesto, or the bay area. Just one team member must show up for scoring (bring the camera).

Ok you should be getting the idea. If you don't enjoy this event just a little I will refund your entry fee. It just doesn't get any better.
200 views of this thread, and (maybe some marketing is in order) because of the rush to enter I'm capping the entries at 100.

There are two Maybe attending people on Face Book, neither is a SCCA member. First is Ray Tepfer, machinist and car guy, he has a shop by mine in Madera. Second is Anthony Daulton he is one of the organizers of Euro Sunday, and he is from Fresno. If you are not on Face Book I can PM E-mails. :D If you are out of Fresno we have members in the Bay area, Stockton, and Hanford/LeMoore. Just one tream member & the Camera needed for scoring.

over 400 views and 6 teams. If you have never tried anything like this now is your chance. If you are not registered with the forum, take the time to register. Post for a member to form a team. Better, make your post make your post in the form of a old (prefacebook) newspaper ad. :D
I'm still in need of a partner for this, someone who's experience might complement mine, any takers?

I was hoping for something like "Young gear head/instigator in chief seeks historically knowledgeable partner for photo play on scavenger hunt."

I like that, i'm tempted to put in my sig.
Hey Thad,
If you want we can work together.
I don't think Gary will give us many diversity points sine we both fall in to the young'ns w/ imports category. that said, yeah, I'm in . Now we need a team name with a pun in it.

Here it is. There is a pdf version attached. Enjoy.
Gary’s Photo Scavenger Hunt and Group Ice Breaker
At least two people per team. (I don’t want you trying to drive & take pictures at the same time). One member of each team must be a club member.
POINTS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS ON THE “HUNT”
1. A picture of the team and the car (however you are going from place to place looking for the things on this list). If a friend takes your picture or if you use the camera self timer 3 points; Use a mirrored store front 5 points.
2. California Car License plate with car on road (no showrooms or car shows): blue yellow 1 point; black yellow 2 points; yellow black 3 points; little black yellow 4 points, historic - horseless carriage 5 points
3. Pink Car 3 points. Picture including team member and driver, 1 point extra.
4. Dead Head window Sticker, License plate frame or Bumper sticker 3 points, Dead Head dancing bears 5 points.
5. Car with curb feelers or fender skirts; 3 points. Car with both, 5 points.
6. Mailbox support non-traditional (plow, welded chain, etc.), 2 points. If the support is car related (crankshaft, alum. Wheel, etc.) 4 points
7. Windshield cracked 1 side 1 point, side to side 2 points, up to head butt 5 points. Pictures of cracked windshields are really hard. Background and lighting both must be good. Take your pictures then look at them. Check to insure your photos show the crack(s).
8. License plate with one English word 2 points, think of all the 1, 2, or 3 letter words. With two words 4 points. (whole words, no abbr. or number words “8 lunch”)
9. An Italian car 2 points, a French car 4 points. If the picture includes team member and driver, 1 extra point.
10. Mustang convertible 2 points, with top down 4 points, including team member and driver 1 extra point.
11. White wall tire on a car. 2 point, Raised white letters 2 points, Red line 2 points, any combo of on same car 5 points
12. A Japanese car (not yours) with Soshinsha or Wakaba mark 2 points, a non-Japanese car 3 points, 1 point extra for picture including team member with driver (young person). 4 points for a Koreisha mark , 1 extra point picture of driver with team member (old person grey haired).
One picture will be counted from each category. (Hint get something, then look for an upgrade.) Ties will be resolved by number of highest scoring challenges. The normal caveats for courtesy, safety, and respect for others apply (We may want to try something like this again). A quick thank you to Justin Clements organizer of BABE Rally, Justin reintroduced me to the scavenger hunt with the addition of digital photography.
So all you need is a pink Mustang convertible, in front of a mirrored store front selling alternative mail box stands, with a Dead Head, Japanese leaf stickers, curb feelers, 1960’s black plate, towing a Renault, license “I FROG”, with white wall tires, and a cracked windshield. Just take one picture worth 38 points. One picture for each item would be much easier to score.

Gary,
I guess I am a well rounded person as I know what all of these look like but I guess that comes form starting with a Corvair:rolleyes: and then becoming a 240SX driver:D.
I hope Thad and I can get them all and I think some bonus point are very possible.;)
Oh and Gary what is the insurance coverage if we venture into certain neighborhoods to get certain photos.

Before I rediscovered Cars, I was a high power National Match rifle competitor, somehow I don't think of things like that. So you found a small Calif. black and yellow plate?

Chris Yang here. I'm still looking to get someone as a partner for this nifty little event. :)
I hope I'm not too late.

In "hunting" for the items on the list, Ric and I came up with a number of things that would make for some fun.
Never in my life did i ever think I'd burn as much gas as we did today looking for a French car... winter sucks :(

Did you happen to see what color license plate it had? However the chain mail box might be nice.

Sorry I couldn't find time for this. The French car and Dead Head sticker would have been easy for me seeing how there is a Peuguot 505 diesel that runs on oil he gets from restaurants not 50 feet from my door. The Dead Head sticker, well, all you guys had to do was call me.;)

I feel really stupid that I missed most of this and was too lazy/forgetful to join this forum.
Keep the diversity criteria, that was an awesome idea.
Next time I will definitely be on board with this. I think I would get great points for diversity with:
- Corky Schroeder
- Pam Schroeder
- Steve Bradford
- Dan Bratten
- The Hulk
- Brandon Griggs
Or really anybody who is over the age of like 25 and white.
Thanks for putting this on, Gary. Hopefully I'll be able to participate next time.

I would REALLY:D like to do this again. I also would like to see if Gary would host a Chirstmas themed December Photo Scavenger Hunt.
What does everybody else think? I also propose we do it all in one day too.
