Fellow car nuts...

My 91 MR2 was stolen from in front of my house this morning. I ask your help in spotting it.

It's a non turbo, 91 Red MR2. It's most identifiable by a crappy front body kit that is chipped and showing a lot of white primer beneath it. Other than that, it's bone stock.

License plate 5UHT724

If seen, please call Fresno PD at 621-7000. Thanks

I don't know if any of you remember Anthony's white fox body, but when it was stolen it made its way all the way up to the Bay Area. Therefore if you have not already Post this on the BAForums.
Stupid question sort of. How much gas was in the tank? If it was not much you could canvas the gas station in the area and see if they remember it and then see if they have security cameras.

having your stuff stolen isnt the best feeling (ive had my car broken into more then once) so ill keep a look out for it. but i feeling that it was stolen purely for the front bumper (that wasnt an authentic Border type 2 bumper was it? since it was chipping ill probably think not)

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I'm happy to say that I got a call from CHP late last night to tell me the car had been found. I get it back on Monday!

The lady on the phone said that there was broken glass and the radio is gone. I am still trying to rap my head around why someone would want the POS radio in that car. I'd value it at $10...maybe $20 if the left channel worked!

Once again thanks everyone.

Glad to hear that you got your car back, Brandon., and it sounds like there is relatively little damage.

I was at a two day regional at Candlestick in 1995. As the autocross progressed. I glanced at a sound of screeching tires off toward the end of the road around the parking lot, north, toward the housing projects and noticed a brand new dark blue MR2 turbo being driven around in circles. Drift style. Upwards of twenty to thirty times...In an intersection! Cars approaching the intersection would stop and turn around not even being able to go through. When I finally noticed what was going on, as I had to turn my attention away from the event that I was participating in, I pointed it out and got the responce...They're just probably imitating us . OK. I was new and maybe it was someone that couldn't afford the entry fee and just figured. Why not. Ya right. The guy ended up leaving but came back later on and started gettin dizzy in the intersection again. So I started asking people if they had a cell phone to call the police to report it as the car was probably stolen. Well, 15 years ago cell phones were rare and if they did know one said they had one. But, someone told me that if it was a stolen car it was probably gang related. Which had him fearing retaliation at future events there if the police were called. Another speculated that the police wouldn't even come to that neighbor hood. Let alone stop them. (side bar..All of the people I talked to at that event are no one that I currently know in SFR. I honestly don't remember who they were. Only they're words) Well, it was my first time there and I really didn't know many people. So I had to endure watching it. I gotta admit, he was doing some fast hysterical donuts. I think the 95 is the last second generation turbo.

Then, the donut master stopped and was never heard from again.

The next morning. Real early, as it was a two day event, James Barrett and I drove over to where they were putting on the show to see the skid marks and off to the side, parked, right behind a dumpster the size of a big truck trailer, was the dark blue turbo. Totaled! They destroyed that car there after we had gone. Who knows how bad they violated that car. The cops probably never showed up. Even later on when I'm sure it really got crazy. It was probably witnessed by at least a thousand people especially the ones that lived in those buildings north of Candlestick. Still makes me sick when I think about that day.

How would you like to live in that neighbor hood. I'm sure glad I don't.

What a horrible story.
Here are some pictures after cleaning it up and putting all the pieces back together.

-The door panels were laying in the dirt next to the car.

-License plates are gone.

-T-Tops were in the trunk... still trying to figure that one out...

-Head unit and speakers are gone, collectively worth $80

-Ignition switch is badly abused though it still locks the steering and all the pins are in it. Key is still required to start it.

-Spare tire is gone

-Must not have liked my music as the few CDs that were in the car are still there

-All the interior plastic pieces will need to be replaced, everything was just ripped out, damaging all the mounting points/holes.

The saddest part of all, even when they catch these people it's like fishing on TV: Catch & Release. My Mazda PU was stolen in 1994, and they caught the guy who did it two weeks later. He was 22 years old, had 12 priors for car theft, and a rap sheet a mile long. I agreed to testify in court that "yes, that is my car etc etc" but he plea bargained. Less than a year later I saw his name (he had an unusual spelling) in the Fresno Bee when he was arrested for burglarizing garages in NW Fresno. Two years after that he was in the paper again for running a stolen credit card ring. This piece of human debris did over $4,000 damage to my truck, some of which was not covered by insurance, and to this day he is probably involved in some sort of criminal activity, knowing he will never do hard time no matter how many times he's caught. Troubled youth my left butt cheek.
