This was my first time drifting or as close to drifting as I was getting. I didn't get to stay for the second half, but I really enjoyed the morning practice. Big thanks to Josh and all of the other people involved in setting this up. My son had a great time and so did I.

I just wanted to give a thumbs up and a HUGE thank you to Mr. Fine and all who helped to put this event together.

The event was a BLAST to drive and watch. Just for those who could not make it, we had a staggering amount of entries and no incidents throughout the day. The crowd of drivers, spectators, photographers, and mechanics were friendly and obeyed all the rules of the site and the club. Josh did a great job at letting everybody know what kind of behavior was expected, and everybody definitely responded well.

After driving the course, I suggest that we add a J-hook type of mini-course for our next drift event. This would be mainly to help warm up drift initiation techniques.

Thanks again to Josh, his helpers, and everybody who attended! Hope we make this a regular thing!

I also encourage everybody who participated in this drift event to seriously consider running with us for SOLO II. It's a different style of driving, but the skills carry over between the two types of events and the club definitely needs DRIVERS and their support to continue hosting these events!

didnt fair out too well for me but practice makes better

loads of fun

met alot of new cool people plus saw a bunch of friends out there too

hope there are more drift events to come

ill try to get that oil catch can put on the 86 before then, btw did i see custom homemade oil catch cans out there today?? if so, think someone could give me the how to on one of those?? thanks.

oh yes, ideas for next time:

a higher speed large course

addition of a wet skidpad to the mini courses

as i worked the course i noticed you get a good viewing positions, good enough that course workers can radio in and give the driver tips like if they're initating drifts too early or too late, or which techique is better suited for a particular corner. they could radio in and the flagger could tell them as they come back to grid. good idea?? yes?? no??

I would first like to thank all of the Fresno SCCA members present at the Drift Practice. A few of you came just to support the event by helping out even though you were not driving. Now I also want to recognize those of you that are not SCCA members but are always around lend a hand even if you are not driving at the event too. I don’t want any of you to think I can do this event by myself and it is because of you the event ran so smoothly. All of your help makes events like this possible. Keep up the great example of supporting the club by helping out at events even if you are not driving. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Thank you to all the participants who registered and came to the event. Without the large turnout this event would not have been possible. Also thank you for following the rules and guidelines for the event. Following the rules and guidelines makes it possible that the club may do this type of event again. I very much appreciated the respect each one of you gave me throughout the day.

I know the club appreciates the feedback from anyone and everyone at the Drift Practice (drivers, crew, helpers, camera people and anyone else.) If the club decides to do another Drift style event the club will consider all of your comments. Please let the club know on these Drift event threads, things you liked the most and things you did not like the most. I wish personally that I could have gotten out on the courses and at least got to try them out, but it looks as though the AutoCAD drawings worked pretty good for my first intentional drift course designs. You guys also got to see the 40’ wide lane in the final course that I was talking about which gave just about everybody enough room to spin and not hit any cones. Some things to think about when leaving the club feedback are:
§ The time per course
§ Time schedule for the day
§ Style of courses
§ Time of the year
§ Time of the day
§ Location
§ Surface
§ Things we did not do that you wanted to do
§ Drift school instead of practice(have instructors per course but cost would be higher)
§ Anything else.
The more feedback the club gets here on the forum the more likely the club will consider doing it again and will try to make it better.

Another way to really make it known you want the club to do a Drift style event again is to show up at the club’s general meeting this month. I know meetings are known for being long and boring, but what are a couple hours out of your night to be able to spend another day drifting. This months meeting is July 20th and the club will be discussing how this event went and whether we want to do another one. Our club meetings are more like a dinner with a meeting, so it is very structured but also casual. Non-SCCA members are welcome to attend meeting and express opinions, but during a vote you won’t be counted. The location is Yosemite Falls Café at Ashlan and HWY 99, so take the Ashlan exit and head West and the restaurant is on the North side of the street. Come by 6:30pm-7:00pm for the start of the meeting which usually is over by no later than 9:00pm and show your support.

Again thank you to all who came and helped out even if you were not driving. Don’t forget to post your feedback good, bad or ideas for the drift style events that the club might hold in the future.
