View Full Version : Practice Day?

So my codriver and I are looking to test/tune our car and try some different suspension setups. I'm sure we can't be the only ones looking to get some seat time and try some new things on the car to see what the stop watch says. I know that the so-cal club does a practice the day before every event. What's the chance of setting up at least one or two timed practice days during the year?

Jared,
At the moment our club has elected to run an Enduro series at the fairgrounds.
There is an extra cost involved to rent the site. If we have enough interest to
to do test and tunes, The event chairman for a particular event could arrange
that. The test and tune would need to pay for itself.

To follow Ric,
The issue we had back when we use to do Test-N-Tunes on Saturdays it would effect our entries on Sunday. On Test-N-Tune days the run groups would run on a timed schedule versus a run schedule, so people were getting close to twice the runs compared to the 5 competition runs on Sunday. A lot of people preferred just driving over competing so we saw a shift in attendance to Saturday making Sunday not pay for its self.
This year I proposed the Enduro format which will consist of a simple flowing course with multiple laps and several attempts at the course.
Jared, hope to see you at one of the events.

To add one more thing related to what Ric & Josh have said. CalClub can do test-and-tunes because they have the turnout to pay for it. Like Josh said, it's a substantial financial loss for us to do it. You really can't compare us with CalClub nor SFR.

So as far as enduro events, that sounds like fun, but not a very good way to test/tune when your trying to compete at 1 lap events.
Heck, if I could work out a deal where I could run all 4 sessions of the day for less then $120 I'd gladly give up points for the day just to get my setup notes.
In all reality I'm the only DS car running in Fresno and I'd like to go do well in San Diego at the national tour event as well as in Washington. Who wouldn't like to have the Fresno club represented well at those events?
With the new sway bar rule in stock class I'm trying to find what setup best works for me.

Were you running R1Rs at the last event?^^
Also check other events around us as well to practice some more: http://www.baautox.com/forum/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=2&rid=405

Yes we were running r1r's at the last event as our "practice" tires. Hoosier a6's being so expensive and wearing so quickly just doesn't make sense to practice on locally. So we decided on more of a street r-compound tire for costs. So, not until the bigger events get closer will we break out the Hoosiers and fine tune for them. I think my times were decent for r1r's though.

I agree.
I'd opt for 'kooks z214s c71s as a cheap race rubber to practice on. If you could opt for more, V710s then.

Jared,
If Nationals is your goal, I would suggest running your car as close to your National
configuration as possible. You'll need to follow a specific plan to develope your car.
Marina events would be the best venue because of the concrete surface. The more
seat time the better.
