That is the date of the parade. Evidently, the club has decided to enter the parade. That means we will be seeking vounteers to participate. Have you ever driven in a parade? It's fun! I drove old blue in the Kingsburg parade once. Put the numbers and such on. It's fun to hear the kids say "Look Daddy, a real race car.":)

The registration will be sent in tomorrow which is be fore the April 11th deadline.
Once I have a confirmed entry I will post it here.
The club discussed what we are looking for as cars to be entered. The entry listed that we will have 4 cars so not everyone will get to go. What we are looking for is a representation of all make (Japanese, European, American, and Custom) also we would like the range of Stock to Modified. We don't want to beg you guys to bring your vehicles, so if you will be available April 25th from early morning to late afternoon then drop us a note here so we know you are interested. The cars will be traveling at walking pace with some possible start and stops. I have seen the Corvette club there each year so I know clutches can survive. I would prefer to have you guys have magnetic numbers with class and possibly the SCCA stickers and other logos.
The general Club meeting on April 20 will be when we finalize who will be going.
Please volunteer your cars as this is a cheap advertising tool for the club and you get the honor of saying I was in a parade with my car.
Helmets will not be required but SCCA membership will be.

I don't know if the Fit will work for what you have in mind but it does draw a lot of attention from the unknowing folks in the crown who can't believe it competes in autox. Anyway, if needed we could be there.

Also you may want to produce some Fresno SCCA logos (large size) that can be converted to a magnetic backing for the event. One for each side of the cars..

So far this is the list of who is going to be in the parade:

Rich Bangle – Honda Fit
Brandon Griggs – VW GTI
Piker trash – Mitsubishi Lancer
Aaron Schreoder – Ford Mustang
Jaysun Kackley – Honda Civic

When I sent in the entry form I went to 8 cars so we still have room for 3 more cars. If you are available then post your intentions here that you would like one of the spots. I personally would like to see another European car and a couple American cars but I will take anything.
I am trying to come up with a way to put our club logo on the cars big enough to be seen from the crowd. I will have some ideas to present at the meeting.

This is Jason Ortiz with the 240sx by the way, I spell my name Jaysun online, I would have my real name and and car in my signature but everytime i click on a link i get a message saying that a security token was missing.

EDIT: I guess my signature is working now but i still get the error message when i click on links and have to click on several links just to by pass things to be able to post.

I really think we need to think of this as a marketing opportunity. Lets get cars out there that people can connect with, something for everyone. FWD, RWD.... European, Japanese, American, Korean, Italian...

Japan is represented well already.

I'd like to see the following cars if possible

Corvette
Mustang
BMW
MINI
WRX

JFine
04-04-2009, 03:44 PM
Corvette - Gary McDaniel, Dan Bratten, Peter or Dave Gabrielian
Mustang-Pam Schreoder, Ashley Briscoe
BMW-Peter or Dave Gabrielian, Dustan Snyder
Mini Cooper-Cliff Page
WRX-Jerry Kell, Hendrick, Aaron Schreoder

Anybody else?

Korean?
Italian?

I have come up with a paper license plate cover to put on the cars. I am going to try and get some prices for windshield banners and window stickers. Maybe even something like what Rich said a magnet of some type. I will bring what I find out to the meeting.

I just thought you might want some alternatives for the Fit to round out your entry types. I could bring the Fit, but I have two other cars that are attention gathers: A 1999 Cougar that I cam pained in STX a few years ago, and an original 1989 Mercedes Benz SLK 230 that was in B Stock.. Just let me know in time to get one ready.

Since we are about a week away from the parade, I think it would be a good time to start thinking about when and where we are going to meeting prior to the parade just to make sure that everyone is accounted for.

I have been involved with the Clovis parade entries before. We are suppose to be getting our entry information this weekend. The way it works is we will have a spot on the street somewhere along Barstow or one of the side streets East of Clovis Ave. We will have a particular entry number and location to stage on the street, so once I have this info I will pass it on to those who have showed interest in being in the parade.

We may end up sending out invitations to particular peoples to see if the have not read this post. Therefore if you are at all interested please post your interest here so I can contact you with were we are staged for the parade.

you'd like that wouldn't you, well the subie is 3 wheel drive right now until i can figure out what kind of subaru these axles came out of. I have a torn boot and these CV housings are bigger than any Subaru axles I've seen yet. In any case the road to turbo'ing wont start till june or so, some how I don't think that 160hp is going to standup to you guys

Thank you fellows who volunteered to drive the parade. I hope you all had a fun time. I was watching the news and they were talking to a little boy and they asked him what he liked best and he said, "the cars." I do not know if he was talking about us or the other cars that were there. Whoever thought up weaving the cars, I would like to complement on a very good idea.;) Also, the motor reving and occasional burnout was nice too. Wish my car could have gotten painted in time but there will always be next year. Speaking of which I have some cool ideas if I can talk you guys into doing it nest year and maybe we can get some more club members.

Here is a link to the pictures I got of you guys. I took some video but I still need to edit it.

Had a great time with the guys and hope we were successful at letting the public know who we are and what we do. My car stinks like horse manure though. Next time we need to get towards the front to avoid the herd of large mammals in the parade.

Cliff you should not have gotten so close to those green cones because the weren't cones.
If the club decides to this again we can get in the beginning of the parade if we register as soon as registration opens. The entries are ordered in the order they are received. I would also as them if we could not be placed right behind a horse group and use the excuse of our loud motors possibly frightening the horses.

What was it like at the track?

schrotacular
04-27-2009, 11:27 AM
well the learning curve wasn't as steep as I had expected...the biggest difference for me is that I've never really had the mustang out of 2nd gear and at buttonwillow I was mainly using 3rd and 4th in 4 or 5 places. Also it being a dedicated race car I also never really used (read: abused) the brakes or engine for prolonged periods of time...there are just some things you can't pick up only running the car for a minute at a time. The brakes are definitely the weak point on the car and the engine needs dyno tuning.

And I know its borderline heretical to promote NASA events on a SCCA board, but as far as getting your feet wet in going to a track, theres nothing better than a NASA HPDE event, tech and requirements are no more strict than autocross and the drivers meeting goes over everything you'll need to know out there and they get an instructor in every car!!!!

SCCA does not have anything to compare to NASA HPDE. I especially like the "ladder system" where they allow you to move up - with instructor approval - as your skill level improves. By the time you are at the 4th level, you are just about ready for an SCCA license school.

From my 4-week road trip. I'm so glad you guys did this. It looks like great fun and I'm sorry I missed it. I'm looking forward to next year. Great photos Josh!

Now - everybody keep June 7th open. That's the day of the Belmont Concours de' eleganza (http://http://www.deleganzaevents.com/index2.html). I have a meeting with the organizer next week to discuss our involvement. At the minimum we will have a corral with preferred parking. Maybe admission discount also.
